Whitwell Station, a historic site in Norfolk, England, has been meticulously restored to offer visitors an authentic experience of early 20th-century railway heritage. The station now serves as the base for the Whitwell & Reepham Railway Preservation Society, which is dedicated to preserving and operating the station and its surroundings. The station’s original buildings have been carefully restored, and a portion of the track has been relaid, allowing visitors to experience the charm of a bygone era. The station’s goods shed has been repurposed as an engine shed, housing a Baguley-Drewry diesel shunter, two Mk I coaches, a Bogie ‘B’ luggage van, and a British Rail four-wheel van. Additionally, an original M&GN hand crane, loaned by the North Norfolk Railway, adds to the site’s historical authenticity. A reconstructed signal box, reflecting the design of the original, has been established on the original footings, complete with instruments recovered from a garden in Elmswell, Suffolk. The National Railway Museum in York has donated a 21-lever Saxby and Farmer frame, originally from Beccles South Box in Suffolk, further enhancing the site’s historical significance.
