Telford Steam Railway

Telford Steam Railway offers a variety of attractions and services for visitors of all ages. Guests can enjoy unlimited travel on heritage steam and diesel locomotives, with a day rover ticket granting access to the standard gauge railway, which includes a mile-long track featuring three stations and a tunnel. The journey offers scenic views and a glimpse into the area’s rich railway history.

In addition to the main railway, the site features a 2ft narrow gauge railway running adjacent to Horsehay Pool, providing a charming ride through picturesque surroundings. The Phoenix Model Engineering Society operates a 5-inch miniature railway at the Spring Village site, offering an additional experience for enthusiasts and families alike.

For model railway enthusiasts, the Railway House hosts extensive 00 and N gauge model railway exhibitions, including the restored Top Link Stafford Layout. The small artifacts museum showcases railway memorabilia, many of which are local to Telford and Shropshire, with knowledgeable volunteers available to provide detailed information.

The Furnaces Tearoom offers a variety of hot and cold drinks, cooked breakfasts (served until 12pm), hot and cold meals, snacks, crisps, cakes, and ice creams, all at competitive prices. Indoor and outdoor seating is available, and drinking water is provided for dogs.

The Freight Stop gift shop, located in a BR goods van at Spring Village station platform, offers an extensive range of items, including second-hand model railways, books, Thomas and Friends merchandise, mugs, flags, train sets, soft toys, keyrings, pens, prints, and cold drinks. The shop provides a variety of souvenirs to remember your visit.

The Horsehay (poolside) play area, located a short walk from Spring Village station, features swings, slides, and a football pitch, providing a perfect place for children to play before or after their train ride.

The railway is accessible to all visitors, with wheelchair-friendly platforms at Spring Village and Horsehay & Dawley stations. Accessible toilets are available at Spring Village station, and assistance dogs are welcome throughout the site. Please note that the current fleet of heritage coaches does not have wheelchair access; however, plans are underway to provide accessible services in the future.
