The Northampton and Lamport Railway (NLR) offers a variety of heritage train experiences, operating on a 2-mile stretch of the former line between Northampton and Market Harborough. Visitors can enjoy round trips lasting approximately 45 minutes, with trains running on Sundays during the operating season. The railway features two stations: Pitsford & Brampton and Boughton. The NLR operates both steam and diesel locomotives, including industrial steam engines and a BR Class 31 diesel locomotive. Special events such as Cream Tea Specials and Santa Specials are available, providing unique experiences for guests. For those interested in a more immersive experience, the railway offers driver experiences and footplate rides on both steam and diesel trains.
On-site amenities include a souvenir shop offering a wide range of gifts, books, and toys, as well as the “Platform 3 Buffet” serving hot and cold drinks, snacks, and freshly prepared hot food. Public houses are located adjacent to both stations, and visitors can enjoy walks along the Brampton Valley Way nearby. Dogs are welcome on the trains, provided they are well-behaved, with certain exceptions during special events. The railway is accessible to wheelchair users, with a dedicated compartment accommodating one wheelchair and two companions or four seated passengers.
