Mid-Norfolk Railway

The Mid-Norfolk Railway (MNR) offers a comprehensive experience for enthusiasts of steam railways and heritage lines, providing a range of facilities and services that cater to diverse interests. Operating between Dereham and Wymondham Abbey, the MNR showcases the rich history and scenic beauty of Norfolk through its well-preserved stations, diverse events, and unique dining options.

At Dereham Station, visitors can explore a museum filled with railway memorabilia, a gift shop offering a variety of souvenirs, and a tearoom serving delightful treats. The station is fully accessible, featuring step-free access and a wheelchair-friendly toilet. Designated parking spaces are available at the front of the station, with assistance provided by station staff as needed.

Wymondham Abbey Station, while offering step-free access, has a steep ramp onto the platform and may require assistance for wheelchair users. This station does not have toilet or parking facilities. (

The MNR hosts a variety of special events throughout the year, including Steam and Diesel Galas, Vintage Bus and Classic Car Days, Model Railway Exhibitions, 1940s Weekends, and Beer Festivals. The Polar Express™ Train Ride operates annually from mid-November to the end of December, attracting thousands of visitors each year.

For those interested in unique dining experiences, the MNR offers themed trains such as the Afternoon Tea Train, Fish and Chip Specials, and Murder Mystery Trains. Cream Teas are served on the 3.45pm train from Dereham most Sundays from June to September, with Afternoon Teas on selected Saturdays. Evening Fish and Chip Specials are available on Saturday evenings, with booking strongly recommended for all these trips.

The railway also provides opportunities for private charters and events, including weddings, anniversaries, and birthday parties. Dereham Station is a licensed marriage and civil partnership venue, offering a unique setting for special occasions.

For those interested in operating a locomotive, the MNR offers driver experience days, allowing individuals to take control of diesel and steam locomotives on select days throughout the year.

The MNR is committed to accessibility, welcoming wheelchair users and disabled customers on board all services. Most trains carry wheelchair ramps and have dedicated areas for wheelchair users, though accessible toilets are not available on most trains due to the heritage nature of the carriages.
