The Lavender Line is a heritage railway offering a nostalgic experience for enthusiasts of steam and diesel locomotives. Situated at Isfield Station in East Sussex, it provides a two-mile round trip through the picturesque Wealden countryside. Operated by dedicated volunteers, the line features both steam and diesel engines, allowing visitors to choose their preferred mode of travel.
At Isfield Station, visitors can explore a range of facilities and attractions. The station boasts a Grade II listed signal box, offering a glimpse into the railway’s operational history. For refreshments, Cinders Buffet serves a variety of hot and cold meals, including the renowned ‘pie of the day’. The station also features a children’s play area, a gift shop, and Riley’s Miniature Railway, a 5-inch gauge railway where all fares collected are donated to the Evelina Children’s Hospital in London.
Accessibility is a priority at the Lavender Line. The station is largely step-free, with ramps and steps available for assistance onto the trains. Designated disabled parking spaces are located near the main entrance, and accessible toilets with grab/drop-down rails and baby changing facilities are available. Please note that while most diesel services are accessible, there is currently no wheelchair access to the steam trains.
The Lavender Line operates on selected Sundays and Bank Holiday Mondays, with specific dates announced in advance. For the most up-to-date information on operating days, timetables, and fares, visitors are encouraged to check the official website or contact the Lavender Line directly.
