Eden Valley Railway

Steam Train Near Appleby-in-Westmorland

The Eden Valley Railway Trust is committed to preserving and operating a heritage railway in the heart of Cumbria, England. Currently, the line runs for approximately 2.2 miles between Warcop Station and Southfields, offering visitors a charming ride through the picturesque Eden Valley countryside. All visitor facilities are located at Warcop Station, as Southfields does not have a public station or access point.

Passenger services operate from March through September on weekends and Bank Holidays, with additional weekday services available during the summer season. A highlight of the railway’s calendar is the “Cumbrian Boat Train,” which runs on the third Sunday of each month from April to October. This service features a rare combination of battery-electric Motor Luggage Vans (MLVs) and a 4-CEP unit, providing a distinctive and nostalgic experience.

At Warcop Station, guests can explore the **Warcop Emporium**, a well-stocked gift shop with railway-themed souvenirs and merchandise. The **Buffer Stop Refreshments** café offers a selection of snacks and drinks, ensuring a comfortable and enjoyable visit for all.

The railway also hosts the **GB2EVR amateur radio station**, located on the site’s historic loading dock. This unique feature enables global communication and helps promote the railway’s activities to a wider audience.

Those interested in getting involved can become members or volunteers, supporting the continued restoration and operation of this historic railway line.
