The Buckinghamshire Railway Centre, located in Quainton, Buckinghamshire, is a working steam museum and heritage railway set within a 25-acre site amidst picturesque countryside. At the heart of the centre is a stunning, glass-roofed Visitor Centre, formerly the Rewley Road railway station from Oxford, which was relocated here in 2002.
Visitors can enjoy a variety of attractions, including full-size steam train rides, miniature ride-on trains operated by the Vale of Aylesbury Model Engineering Society (VAMES), and a comprehensive Railway Museum showcasing a vast collection of railway artefacts. The centre also features a gift shop and a café, providing a delightful setting for relaxation.
Special events are a highlight at the centre, with Steaming Days typically held on Sundays from April to October, and additional events during school holidays. These events often include appearances by beloved characters such as Thomas the Tank Engine, Peppa Pig, and PAW Patrol, as well as vintage vehicle displays and seasonal festivities.
For those interested in hosting private functions, the centre offers unique venue hire options, including weddings, parties, meetings, and corporate events. The historic setting provides a memorable backdrop for any occasion, with dedicated event teams ensuring smooth planning and execution.
The Railway Café operates on weekdays from 9.30 am to 2 pm, offering a range of meals and refreshments. While the café is open during these hours, access to the rest of the site, including train rides and the museum, is limited on weekdays.
The centre is fully accessible for wheelchair and pushchair users, with disabled toilets available throughout the site. Well-behaved dogs on leads are welcome everywhere on site and in the train, with some restrictions in the cafeteria serving area.
